A little bit about me
Hello, my name is Michael Pearce, I'm 26
years old and I live in Greystones in Wicklow, Ireland. I'm engaged to my beautiful fiancée Audrey and will be getting married in September 2009 in Italy.
I'm a Software Developer and I currently work for a company called Pocket Kings developing features for the Full Tilt Poker client for playing online poker.
I have a degree in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin where I graduated in 2006. I specialised in Mobile Communications and Computer Vision in my final year. For my Final Year Project (worth 20% of my degree) I worked on an application to take in a video of a snooker game, locate the snooker balls and then send that data out to a mobile phone so it could re-create the game on the phone. It sounded fun in theory but, to be honest, the experience put me off Computer Vision altogether.
During the summer before my final year in college, I worked as an intern for a company called CommProve. I really enjoyed my time there and went back to work for them after I finished my degree. I really got on well with the people, I was given a lot of responsibility for such a junior developer, but after a year and a half I realised that I wasn't really that interested in working in telecommunications and I didn't want to be type-cast as a telecomms engineer. I decided wanted to work in application development, so I moved on to my current job with Pocket Kings.
Hobbies and interests
I love music, both listening to and playing it myself. I sing and play guitar in a band called Outbreed. If you want to know more about that, check out my music page.
I'm a big fan of Man Utd and I love playing football myself. At the moment I play on astro-turf twice a week with work people during lunch, which breaks up the day nicely.
When I'm bored, I often find myself doing something extremely nerdy like web-design or scripting... For more about that check out my projects page.
I really enjoy watching films - I used to go all the time but now it's more of a treat as it's so expensive these days. My top 10 films would have to include Garden State, LA Confidential, Sideways, Where Eagles Dare, The Godfather II, to name but a few.
